The government has decided that from July 24th onwards, wearing face masks in shops will be compulsory for all people over age 11 in England.
The government recently announced that those who did not follow the new rules would face a fine of up to £100. Matt Hancock, a health secretary said that it would "give people more confidence to shop safely and enhance protections for those who work in shops". This will mean England making the same decision as Scotland, and other major European countries such as Spain, Italy and Germany.
The government have said the rule will not apply to children under 11 and people with certain disabilities.
Some people are complaining about the idea, and some people support it. Quite a lot of people are annoyed with the new rules as they don't particularly like the feel of face coverings. Some people, mostly shop owners, think the new decision will make people feel more empowered to try and steal things.
Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of England, has been seen walking around No. 10 Downing Street wearing a face mask recently.
